Having had lessons in piano, violin and the Chinese classical Erhu, it wasn't until Ali discovered the guitar at 14 that his journey in music began. Ali went on to study at the Academy of Contemporary Music, receiving tutelage from industry guitarists such as Giorgio Serci, Nic Meier, and Mike Goodman.

As a teacher, Ali's lessons have a heavy focus on physical conditioning and technique, especially in the early stage. In other words, it is most important to get your fingers moving!

Ali has taught guitar, bass, and music theory, as well as creating arrangements for his acoustic guitar duo With Ether sine 2011.
